Free Day

Thankfully, I had a day off today, which meant SLEEPING IN!  I slept in until 11 and then got ready and met everyone on campus to head to Putney for some shopping.  We went to this amazing noodle bar, which apparently is in few parts of the US, Wagamamas.  I have been spoiled these past two days with meals that are actually filling, so I was so happy when I was full off of my dumplings and noodle bowl.  After the mini disaster of my hair straightener blowing up, I had to go get a new straightener and some random house keeping products (including a poster for my bare walls) so I did all that shopping in Putney.

Since we started to day so late, we were sad to see the sun go down just as we got into the good stores. Our shopping was shortened by the 5 o'clock closing hours of all the shops, so we headed back to campus shortly after that.  The biggest difference between here and my beloved North Carolina is the weather.  It has been dreary each day, so when we saw a small glimmer of sunlight while we were eating lunch today, I freaked out.

I have so many things that I want to do while I am abroad (visit Dublin, Italy, Spain, Scotland; as many UK boroughs as possible) that we all felt it was necessary to make a to do list.  So, we all sat down and hammered out a long list of things we want to do such as shows, boroughs, shops and of course, Abbey Road.  It has been so wonderful to meet people with the same desires to do as much as possible in our time here, so knowing I would be experiencing it all with these international students is so awesome.

After our list making, we went to dinner and had the ultimate London food: FISH AND CHIPS.  It was at a small little restaurant near campus that looked like a sketchy chinese food place back home, but  their food didn't disappoint - but hey, anywhere that has fries won't disappoint me!  It was my first fish and chips experience and I liked it way more than I expected to.  The servings were SO big that I didn't even finish half of mine, but felt like such a Londoner as I left. (I don't think thats a word, but I'm making it one)

On the list for tomorrow is heading to central London and seeing Buckingham Palace, Green Park and Harrods!  So excited to see more of such an amazing city!

Highlight of the day:  Buying my new oyster card holder that is the map of the tube, useful and cute!
